It’s Not Fair

Item Needed: treat your kids would like (candy, cookies, etc.)
A sticker for each one

Put a sticker on half the kids and announce, “I have a special treat for each person wearing a sticker.” Pass out the treat to ONLY the ones wearing a sticker.

When the kids complain that this isn’t fair, agree with them.

Share a few statistics:

  • More than 6 million children die from malnutrition (condition that comes from not having enough food) each year.
  • Over 1.4 billion people live below the poverty line, living on less than $1.25 a day. (www.compassion.com)

How do you think you would feel if you didn’t have enough to eat every day?

What can we do to help others?

Because of a famine in Jerusalem, the believers were facing hard times. Paul collected money to help them. We who have been blessed with much can share with those who have little.

It’s More Blessed to Give

What is a steward? (A person who protects or is responsible for someone else’s money, property, etc) This is not a word that we use much now, but in Bible times, a landowner would often hire a steward to manage and take care of his property and money. A steward is not the owner, but a manager of what has been entrusted to him.

The earth and all that is in it belongs to God; without God, we would not even have life. Every good gift is from Him. (James 1:17) We are stewards of all God has given us.

Help kids capture the idea of stewardship and find the joy of using what is given to help others. Give each child $10 with one requirement – he/she must use it to help someone else. (Brainstorm ideas, if needed.)

A Chance to Share

Watch an Operation Christmas Child video (a division of the relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse) to learn about a great way to share with others. Begin now saving money or buying small items to go in a shoebox. Shoeboxes are due around Thanksgiving, but this is a good time to buy school supplies and other small gifts.
