See and Say
Take a walk to collect things for a Thanksgiving centerpiece (leaves, pine cones, acorns, berries, vines, greenery, etc.). As you walk, talk about the blessings of knowing God through Christ.
- Who made all this beauty?
- What’s the best thing about knowing God?
- What would you like to tell God if you could see Him?
- What are some things for which you are thankful?
Because we belong to Christ, thanks should spill out of us!
– Poster board
– Construction paper to make leaves (or real leaves)
– Markers or pens
Draw the outline of a tree on the poster board. Cut out leaves from construction paper and ask family members (even Thanksgiving Day guests) to write what they are thankful for on them and add them to the tree. Encourage others to think of blessings we have because of our new life in Christ (home in heaven, sins forgiven, Holy Spirit to guide us, peace, promises of God, etc.).
Read Colossians 2: 6, 7.
We are connected to Christ and have life through Him.
The Thanksgiving Showdown
Stage a showdown to show our thanks to God. As you are driving in the car (or at any other time) have a “Thanksgiving Showdown”. Choose two participants and then name an area where we need to be thankful – home, family, school, church, friends, abilities, nature, and then ask the two participants to go back and forth naming something to be thankful for (related to that) until one can’t think of anything. The winner is the last one to name something.
Pick a new category and two more people to see who can be the most thankful.
Because we have new life in Christ, we should overflow with thanksgiving. (Psalm 100)
