Splinks for June 16th - June 22nd
Our Response
Ask your kids some of the following questions to show that different people respond differently.
- What is your favorite food?
- What do you like to do on a rainy day?
- What is your favorite book in the Bible?
- What is the candy bar you could eat every day?
Each of you had different responses to the questions I asked you. We can each choose our responses.
How did the different people who heard Paul's message respond? (In different ways—some listened and believed; some were jealous and caused trouble; some eagerly searched the Scriptures (Bible) and obeyed them.
What is your response when YOU hear God's Word, the Bible?
Hearing Is Not Enough
Give a simple command to your kids at the table and notice their response. Give verbal praise to the one who obeys first. (I noticed that you were the first one to sit up in your chair. I am glad to see how quickly you took your plate to the sink. I love it when you obey right away.)
Why is it good to obey the Bible? (It will help us know what to do; it can guide us in the right way to live; it pleases God)
The people heard the message about Jesus and did something about it—they believed. It is not enough just to hear, but we need to obey the message of the Bible.
Daily Search the Scripture
Be like the Bereans! Acts 17:10-12 says that the Bereans eagerly searched the Scriptures daily.
Start a new habit and read the Bible together daily. Pick a good time (at breakfast, after dinner, before bedtime—whatever works) and join together. Read a few verses, and then ask the following questions
- What does this say?
- What can I learn about God from these verses?
- How can I obey these verses?
