Items Needed: Toilet paper or paper towel rolls (cut to about 3 inches long); peanut butter; plastic or butter knives; birdseed
Make a simple bird feeder to show God’s care for His creation. Give each person a toilet paper roll. Instruct them to spread peanut butter on it and then roll it in the birdseed. Hang the bird feeders on the end of a branch for birds to enjoy.
Read Matthew 6:25-26.
What do these verses tells us about our heavenly Father?
God cares for the birds and we are even more valuable than them. He will care for us!
If you have young children, here is a simple song to pray before meals to acknowledge God as the Father who meets our needs. An easy way to teach it is to sing each phrase and then they will repeat it.
(Sing to tune, “Are You Sleeping?”)
God our Father (God our Father)
Once again (once again)
We bow our heads to thank you (We bow our heads to thank you)
Follow His Example
God is a loving Father who prays for His children. We can follow His example and pray for others.
Write out the names of family and friends on slips of paper. Write out ideas of prayers to pray on slips of paper (keeping the two stacks separate). Put the two stacks in two bowls. Every evening after dinner (or at bedtime), choose one slip from each bowl and pray the prayer for the person drawn.
Some ideas of prayers from the Bible (Jesus’ prayer in John 17 and Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1):
- protect them (John 17:11)
- give them joy (John 17:13)
- keep them safe from the evil one (John 17:15)
- make them holy by God’s Word (John 17:16)
- be filled with God’s love (John 17:26)
- they will be united—work together (John 17:21)
- they will be wise (Ephesians 1:17)
- they will grow in the knowledge of God (Ephesians 1:17)
