Splink 1:

Act Like You Love One Another

Get the creative juices going and make puppets out of whatever materials you have on hand (sock singles; popsicle sticks; markers; scraps of fabric; yarn; etc.) After each person makes a puppet, act out some scenarios (with the puppets) of when and how to show love. Pair up two or more, give them an idea and let them think of and perform a short show.

Some ideas:

  • A new girl feels left out on the playground
  • A sibling wants to play a game
  • Mom is cooking dinner and the baby is crying
  • A neighbor breaks your toy
  • Your good friend is sick

Clap loudly for each show!

Splink 2:

Love is…

Make a memory game with characteristics of love from 1 Corinthians 13.

If you have older kids, ask them to look up the chapter and find the characteristics. Write each of the characteristics on two post-it notes with a pencil (a marker will show through).

Love is:

  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Does not keep a record of being wronged
  • Happy when truth wins
  • Never gives up
  • Never loses faith
  • Always hopeful
  • Endures through every situation

Then write some of the characteristics (twice) that love is NOT:

  • Jealous
  • Proud
  • Rude
  • Demands its own way
  • Irritable

Mix up the post-it notes and stick them face down. Take turns turning over two at a time. If they are the same (a match), the person finding them gets to keep the match until the end of the game. After all matches have been found, sort them in two categories: what love is and what love is NOT.

Splink 3:

Love Signal

The best place to start loving is at home! Think of a “secret” signal that means “I love you.” How about squeezing the other person’s hand three times? How about tapping your heart? How about linking your two index fingers together? Practice the signal and see which one gives the signal to the other family member first, especially out in public.
