Follow the Command!

Give simple commands for your children to follow.

  • Hop on one foot at least 7 times without putting the other foot down.
  • Rub your belly and pat your head at the same time.
  • Touch something blue.
  • For the next 20 seconds, high five your siblings as many times as possible.
  • Walk like a robot.
  • Act like a(n) __. (animal of your choice)
  • Count how many jumping jacks you can do in 10 seconds.

Were those commands easy or hard for you? Jesus gave His disciples, and us, a command to complete. We are to tell others about what Jesus has done. God has promised to give us the power we need to obey this command (Acts 1:8).

Do Your Part!

Think of a simple job for your children to accomplish and break it down into one step for each kid. Write each one out on an index card or verbally assign them a task.

Some ideas:

  • Build a fort in the living room. (One gathers blankets, one gathers chairs, one spreads out the blankets, and one gathers snack.)
  • Make a dessert. (One gathers ingredients, one gets out the mixer, one mixes it, one sets the timer, and all share in eating it.)
  • Organize the toys. (One puts the books on the shelf, one gathers the Legos into a bin, and one lines up the cars.)

What would have happened if you didn’t complete your part of the mission? (Something would be missing; It wouldn’t get done; etc.)

Jesus had completed His work on earth, and it was time for Him to go back to Heaven. He had a big job for His followers. They were to be His representatives (ambassadors) all over the world so everyone could hear the good news about Jesus and the way to Heaven. All Christ followers are to be ambassadors and share this wonderful news until Jesus returns.
