Show Your Faith
Paul encouraged Timothy to show his faith by following Christ’s example. What can you and your family do to show your faith this week? It doesn’t have to be something big to make a big impact—little kindnesses mean a lot.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Smile at 3 people.
- Let someone go ahead of you at the checkout line in the grocery store.
- Ask the clerk what her favorite candy bar is and buy it for her.
- Eat lunch with someone who might not have many friends.
- Hold the door open for someone.
- Leave a kind note in a library book for the next person who checks it out.
- Make and mail a card to an elderly person.
- Share a toy.
- Help without being asked.
- Leave a treat or nice note in the mailbox for your mail carrier.
Building Blocks
Item Needed: Blocks
Explain to your children that you are going to build something with your blocks, and they will try to build the same structure. Start off simple and increase the difficulty as you go.
Talk to your children about how you set the example for them to follow with the blocks. Ask them what was easy and what was difficult about the activity. Remind them that Timothy followed Paul’s example, and Paul encouraged Timothy to follow the example of Jesus. We should follow Jesus’ example in our words, actions, love, and faith.
How can you follow Jesus in these areas this week?
Charade Parade
Talk to your children about Paul’s instructions to Timothy to follow Jesus’ example in his words, actions, love, and faith. Discuss how we should follow the example of Jesus too! Jesus taught the people, using His words for good. Jesus healed and cared for people, using His actions for good. Jesus showed others love when He met their needs (feeding the 5000 for example). Jesus trusted and obeyed His Father, giving us the perfect example of faith.
Decide together what actions can represent each area. (words-point to mouth, action-self hug, love-heart with hands, faith-letter O for obey with hand)
March around the house or yard doing the motions while saying, “I can show my faith with my words. I can show my faith with actions. I can show my faith with my love. I can show my faith by trusting and obeying.
Repeat this a few times and close your time together in prayer, asking God to help you show your faith to others and follow Jesus’ example.
