He’s Coming!

Item Needed: Bible

Read Isaiah 9:6b together as a family. Make up motions as you practice the verse together (or use the suggested motions below).

Words:
He shall be called
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace

Motions:
Point to mouth
Clap for each syllable
Flex muscles
Stretch arms out as far as possible
Place hands on head like a crown

After saying the verse together with the motions several times, discuss with your children what the names of Jesus mean. Wonderful reminds us that Jesus is very good. Mighty God describes Jesus as strong and powerful. Everlasting Father means that Jesus always has been and always will be. Prince of Peace is the title that tells us Jesus will bring peace to His followers.

Close your time together in prayer, thanking God for the gift of His Son Jesus.

Toss and Tell!

Item needed: Ball

Play a game of toss with your children. Take turns tossing the ball to each other, but be sure to say, “Jesus is coming!” each time before you toss the ball.

Explain to your children that a prophet is a special messenger of God. The prophets we read about in the Bible shared promises about Jesus before they ever happened. Isaiah told the people about Jesus coming one day as the Savior of the world. Jesus fulfilled every prophecy of God because God’s Word is true, and He always keeps His promises.

Continue the game and discussion with your children, answering any questions that might come up.

Waiting…

Instruct your children to stand on one foot while you play music. When the music stops, they can stand on both feet. Play several rounds changing the length of time before the music stops.

Ask:

Was it hard to stand on one foot and wait for the music to stop? You had to balance until it was time to stand on both feet. God’s people had to wait for Jesus’ birth. They knew He was coming because of the promises in God’s Word, but waiting is sometimes hard.

We know Jesus is coming again one day, but we have to wait on Him and trust Him in the in between time. He is worth the wait!
