Rock Solid Faith

Items Needed:

  • Rocks
  • Markers
  • Stickers
  • Glitter glue
  • Etc.

Find three rocks and write one name on each, choosing names your children are familiar with. (Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab) Decorate the rocks if you like. Hide the rocks and allow your children to find them. Then talk about these people of great faith.

Faith is having confidence in or depending on something. Trusting is a choice and having faith takes practice. Over time, our faith grows.

Ask the following about all three people:
Tell me what you know about __.
Who did they have faith in?
How did they show great faith?

It pleases God when we rely on Him. He is always with us. He is on our side, and He loves to help us. We can live a life of faith just like _, _, and __.

Do You Trust?

Items Needed:

  • Chair
  • Glass
  • Scissors
  • Etc. (or other objects of your choice)

Show each item individually and ask:
What is this?
What is it supposed to do?
Do you believe it will work for you?

We put our faith in things all the time, every day, all day long. Very rarely do we think, I sure hope this chair won’t break when I sit down. We don’t think twice about sitting, pouring into a glass, or cutting paper. So why do we struggle with our trust in God?

We treat our faith in God like sitting in a broken chair, pouring water into a glass with holes, or cutting with a broken pair of scissors. We try it (believing in Him) and hope it works out. But God is completely reliable. He is true and trustworthy.

We show our faith in God by completely trusting Him to take care of us. It goes beyond just believing with our minds; faith is being willing to pray to Him and trust Him to do what is right.

Choose Faith

Items Needed:

  • Bible
  • Small treats

Review Hebrews 11:1 with your children.

Read the verse aloud and ask some questions:

How does this verse describe faith? (confidence in what we hope for, evidence of what we can’t see)

Is faith always easy? (No, faith is a choice that takes lots of practice.)

How can we practice our faith in God today? (Trust God to provide, take care of us, etc.)

Invite all family members to stand in a circle. Pass a small Bible from one person to the next with each one saying the next word in the Bible verse. The last one holding the Bible can receive a small treat. (Alternate who starts the verse so everyone will have a turn to get a treat.)
