Float the Boat

Items Needed: variety of household and craft items, sink or tub, water

Experiment with making boats that can float. Look around the house for items to make a boat (egg cartons, milk cartons, cereal boxes, straws, ribbon, cans, plastic water bottles, paper, aluminum foil, small basket, etc.). Fill the tub (or sink) with water to test the creations. You might want to add small Lego people, plastic figures, or other small items to see what the boat will hold.

How might you have felt if you were Moses’ mom putting your baby in a floating basket?

God had a plan for Moses. Moses would grow up to do a very special job for God.

How do you feel knowing God has a plan for you?

Memorize Together

Item Needed: Bible, construction paper, marker

Your child started memorizing 2 Chronicles 7:14. (Because we offer the Bible verse in several versions, ask your children if their teachers sent home a copy of the verse.)

2 Chronicles 7:14 is a great verse to memorize together.

Read it aloud and ask:
What does this verse tell us God wants His people to do? (Be humble; pray; seek God’s face; turn away from wickedness)

Talk about each of these with your children. (Humble means to put others first; to seek God’s face means to live in a way that pleases Him)

Then ask:
What does this verse tell us God will do? (Hear, forgive, and heal)

Write the words of the verse on a piece of construction paper and post it on the refrigerator. Divide the verse into phrases and assign each member of the family one phrase to say—one after the other—like dominoes. Say it several times and pray together thanking God for listening to our prayers and for His forgiveness and healing (physical and spiritual).

Remind your child God cares about every detail of our lives and faithfully watches over us—just as He watched over baby Moses.

What’s the Purpose?

Items Needed: variety of kitchen items

As you are cooking dinner, choose some kitchen items your children might not recognize (potato masher; grapefruit knife; melon baller; strawberry huller; garlic press; apple corer; etc.) and play a game to see how many they can identify. To add to the mystery, put them under a dishcloth and uncover the items one at a time.

Each item has a specific purpose. The person who created the items made them for a special and specific job. God created Moses to do a special and specific job—to lead His people out of slavery. What a big job! Moses didn’t think he could do it, but God promised to help him. God has a special job for you too! The best way to find your purpose is to follow God every day. He will lead you to the special opportunities He has for you.
