Lights, Camera, Action!
Items Needed: Bible, household items to be used as props (optional)
Act out the story of the God’s deliverance of the Israelites from the Egyptian army. Assign parts (Narrator; Moses with a rod; Israelites; Egyptian army; two people to be the Red Sea, which will part and then come back together when the army comes through). If you have a smaller family, act it out in scenes and have the same people play different parts. Read Exodus 14:3–31 aloud as the actors do what you say.
Talk about it:
How do you think you would have felt if you would have been there—before and after the Red Sea parted?
What does this story teach us about God? (He is all-powerful; He can be trusted; He is watching over His people; etc.)
Shout It Out!
Item Needed: Bible
Play “Echo” to review this month’s verse, 2 Chronicles 7:14. Station the children at different places throughout the house. Say a phrase of the verse, then children at the closest to you will “echo” the phrase, continuing out to the ones farthest away. Take turns being the leader who starts the verse and change places.
Follow the Leader
Pair up family members (or friends who are visiting) and appoint one as the leader and the other as the follower. Ask them to stand facing one another and the follower must see how quickly he can do exactly what the leader does (make a face, raise an arm, lift a leg, make a noise, run in place, etc.). After a minute or so, swap roles.
Did you like being the leader or the follower?
What did the follower have to do so he could follow the leader? (He had to watch; he had to pay attention; he had to actually do it; etc.)
Moses led the people out of Egypt, but who was really leading them? (God) God is our leader. He loves us and cares for us. He wants to protect us and keep us safe. Follow God and His Word!
