What Are You Waiting For?
Items Needed: Family favorite treats
Before dinner one night, display your family’s favorite dessert or treats in the center of the table. As you sit down to eat, talk about the treats and how delicious they will be. Ask if anyone would like to eat the treats before dinner, but don’t let them. Discuss patience and remind them that waiting is a part of life.
Explain to your children that Jesus will come again one day to take us to live in Heaven with Him. Ask: Do you know when Jesus will return for us? Who is the only one who knows when Jesus is coming? Emphasize to your children that God the Father is the only one who knows when His Son Jesus will return. Talk about how waiting is hard sometimes but assure them that waiting for Jesus to return is worth every second!

Let’s Make Plans!
Talk with your children about upcoming family events. Ask what they are looking forward to about each event and allow them to share which event they are most excited about.
Explain that patience is waiting nicely without getting angry or upset. Remind them that waiting is a part of life and is hard sometimes. Making plans helps us know when to expect a party, a family trip, or a day off from school.
We know Jesus is coming back one day, but we do not know when. God the Father has His Son’s return all planned out, but He is the only one who knows when that will happen. Waiting for Jesus to return is worth every second!
I’m Not Telling!
Tell your children to pretend your family is taking a trip. Tell them you are not going to tell them when it is, but if they aren’t ready, they won’t get to go.
Ask:
How can you be prepared? (Pack today; Keep my things packed in my room; etc.)
What would make preparing for this trip easier? (If I knew when we were leaving; If I knew where we were going; etc.)
The Bible tells us Jesus will come again one day and take us to live in Heaven with Him. We do not know when He will return, but God the Father knows! Our job is to love and obey God and wait patiently. It will be worth every second!
