Let’s Be Brave!
Items Needed:
- Construction paper
- Printer paper
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Variety of craft items
Spend some time making bravery bookmarks together. You can pre-cut the printer paper and write one of the following phrases on them: Be Bold; Be Brave; Choose Courage; Do Not Fear; etc.)
Read Joshua 1:9 together and work on memorizing this verse as a family. Use your bookmark as a reminder that God is always with us and will help us have courage like Esther when she went before the king (Esther 3:1-4:17).
Pray together, thanking God for His Word and asking Him to help each of you be brave.
God’s Timing Is Best!
Items Needed: Ingredients for a special treat
God’s way is perfect, and His timing is best! Even though Esther was afraid and could have been killed when she went before the king, she chose to trust God and be brave. God put Esther in the palace at the perfect time to save the Jewish people.
In Romans 8:28, God promised that all things work together for good to those who love Him. He did not say that all things are good, but that He would cause good to come from it.
Demonstrate this by making a cake (or another treat)! Show how each ingredient is not so tasty by itself, (ugh! flour, oil, etc.) but all together, something good and delicious is made. This is a reminder that we may not like each unfair thing, but God is just, and He will keep His promise. We must trust His timing and ask Him to show us how good can come from each situation.
Watch me…I’ll show you.
Items Needed: Blocks, Play-Doh, or Legos, etc.
The best way for children to learn how to face whatever comes is by watching their parents face their fears and be courageous. We can help our children learn strategies and Bible verses, which are important, but they will most likely DO what we DO. When they see you trust God during a hard time, it will make an impression. When they see you admit your fears but do what needs to be done, they will imitate that. Parenting is one of the toughest jobs there is, and it takes courage from our Heavenly Father.
If time allows, let your child build something for you to re-create.
