Want to Get Stronger?

One of the best ways to help your children get stronger in their faith is to help them get into the habit of having a “quiet time” each day where they read the Bible and pray. Give them a good devotional book and read the Bible together as a family. Remind them of Daniel’s example.
Daniel decided to put God first when he was a young man. He prayed at least three times a day. Daniel was an important man with many responsibilities, but he made prayer his priority, something that is very important. When the law was made saying no one could pray to anyone but the king, what did Daniel do? (He prayed to God every day like he had always done.) Daniel put God first and God gave him the strength to do what was right even when faced with the threat of the lions’ den!
Talk to your children during dinner about what they are learning in their quiet times. Here are some questions to ask:
What have you learned about God this week?
What can you do to show God love?
How can something you read help you?

Ultimately Reliable
Items Needed:
- Books
- Paper
- Paper towels
- Dish towel
- Wood
- Metal
- Blocks and other small toys
- Paper and pen for notetaking
Test different materials for reliability. Ask your children to gather blocks or other small toys, cars, etc. to use in the experiment.
Make two stacks of books and use the different materials to find out what makes the best bridge between the books. Lay the sheet of paper on top of the books. Then stack items to see how strong the paper is. How many blocks will it hold? Repeat with other materials. Each time a new material is tested for reliability, make a note of how many blocks it holds.
Ask:
Do you know what it means to be reliable? (to be strong, having good quality and performance, able to be counted on to do what it is supposed to do, etc.) What material was the most reliable?
What does it mean to say that God is reliable? (He is strong; He will do what He said He will do; We can count on Him for help; etc.)
Another word for reliable is faithful. When we say that God is faithful, we mean that He is reliable. We can know that He is strong and that He will do what He has said He will do! Stories in the Bible show us God’s faithfulness to love and help His people. Let’s try to be faithful like God!
Keep Jumping!
Items Needed:
- Sidewalk chalk
- Bible
Your children began learning Luke 4:8b at church this week. Read the verse together. Go outside and draw a tic-tac-toe grid on the sidewalk or driveway. Then assign your children different words to write in the squares. They will need to write more than one word in each grid to complete the entire verse. Also, don’t write the words in the correct order, but scramble them so the children will have to jump from one word to the next.
Take turns jumping the verse. The “jumper” should start on the first word of the verse, jump to the next word, and continue jumping until the verse is complete. Onlookers can say the words as the “jumper” jumps on them.
What does this verse tell us to do? (Worship God only.)
As we study the Bible every day, our faith will grow as we learn about God and worship only Him.
